I mean do you people have any patience?
1. If you're in town just standing around go do something else and continue playing.
2. Change districts.
3. Turn down sound, you know the volume button?
4. Put up iTunes and play your own music.
5. Play in windowed mode and go surf for 5 min. Remember to turn on mute GW in
background.

I have been playing GW for a long time and i have never met such obnoxious bastards. Maybe its you who attracts them but you should all calm down and chillax.

What?

I want to break people's windows.

That's my freedom. And I want to yell as loud as I can into people's ears and then hit them in the head.

DON'T LIMIT MY FREEDOM!!

Wait, I'm confused. People that want quiet outposts are nationalists? Woah.

1. Then they win. Terrorism must be fought, not feared.
2. If you don't like me shouting at local store, go to other store. Even if it's 30 minutes away.
3. Why should I have less fun because someone is a retarded fishfrog?
4. Hearing Diversion is still important. And turning off for outposts, turning up for fights and repeat is just stupid.
5. What a stupid suggestion.

All of those points say: You can act like an ass and nobody can stop you.

Just make the sounds only hearable to the owner of tonic. He has his retarded fun, we have silence.

Looks like you figured out the definition just now.

Freedom stops at the point where you are infringing on the freedom of others. Such as, forcing people to switch district or turn off their volume. Basically the same as you buying new window to replace the broken one or buy more resistant glass (converted into real-world scenario).

EDIT: Another suggestion is to have an option to turn off sound-effects while in town/outpost/whatever. This should fix quite a bit of annoyances.

Definitely /Signed (to do something constructive about tonic noise abatement)

I was in LA yesterday for awhile and experienced two Yeti's having a shout off. Their stamina was impressive, and unnecessarily annoying.

IMO, the people who want others to have to listen to the sounds WANT to annoy people.

I don't think people should be banned, just give everyone the option to filter it. I agree with the 'why should I have to turn my sound off or leave the district' crowd. If ANet wants to implement something like this they need to consider everyone, the tonic owners included.

ANet, make hearing tonic sounds optional (preferred solution), or only audible to the tonic owner.

I've owned an Everlasting Yeti tonic for a few weeks now and didn't even know that /sit did that annoying noise over and over again. That's what I get for living in my own little world these past few weeks doing chest running. Haven't spent much time in town at all lately.

From day 1 I figured ANet was going to limit how often the Yeti growls while standing idle. It growls way too often while you're even just standing there doing nothing. This /sit spam is a whole new ballgame. I like the falling down animation so please don't get rid of that (everyone loves the tonics with extra functionality), but if ANet wants to turn off the sounds that come with /sit, fine with me.

I love the Yeti itself though. Love the way it scampers around when you're walking with it.

What could work is setting up some sort of Yeti genocide lol. If enough people are annoyed, I'm sure a group of players can be formed who'll buy up as much yeti as they can and trash them. Gold would be no problem as others who're annoyed too would sponsor the project. And it seems quite a lot of people are annoyed with the beast.

This is by no means waterproof nor will it exterminate all existing yetis and we'll need some thrustworthy people who execute the plan. Most likely the proces should be repeated when next year's yeti tonics arrive. Combined with not selling your z-keys that month to other players. Ofcourse some of those fruitcakes will save up z-keys to increase the chance of getting a yeti and annoy people.

It will however make a statement. It can give some bored people (with a hart for good game design and respect for other players) something worthy to do ingame.

I'm all for Yeti genocide and I'm willing to sponsor 50k (for a start) to the organisation of the extermination of the Yeti. I'm willing to take a leading position in this organisation. If you have any suggestions, you're free to pm me. I just bought an extra account that can serve as bank for sponsorship. Every transaction should be printscreened ofcourse. Same with the buying and destroying of a yeti. It should be all documentated. Yes we can

Excuse me, gonna take my medecine now lol.

EDIT: Personal action of the destruction of Yetis is applauded. Don't forget to take a screenshot for the stats.

Who actually plays GW with sound enabled? You either play while listening to music, or while on vent.... I guess I missed the turning point where players actually started listening to the game music and sounds again.

Yes you are constantly reminding us of that by the content of your messages.

+1's are dangerous to the GW ecosystem like CO2 is for the natural ecosystem.

Why fix the symptom when you can fix the problem? We need to destroy the stupid Yeti owners, not the Yetis who're just obeying their master.

I'd love to be able to turn off Yeti sounds or have none at all. When I sell things I go watch TV with GW's running in the background, then I go back to GW's when I get a 'Ting' PM sound. But nowadays with the damn Yetis all I hear is "Bleeuurgh!" and noises that sounds like your Grannies dog chewing a bone every 10 seconds.

Turn the volume of the game to minimum, up the volume of Winamp and enjoy !!
Let`s face it i love GW sounds but after some time they tend to get boring, but that is not reason to think A-net is gonna make a "mute" game !

Tonics should only make sounds for the person using them. I mean they removed sounds from minipets in outposts, then add these which are just as annoying, if not more. Between the Yeti and that damn Hellhound, any populated outpost becomes an orchestra of annoying barks and "Blaaarghh!s".

Yes, people can sacrifice ALL of their sounds to end the annoyance, but having the tonics make sounds only for the person using them seems to make more sense to me...

Why not just suggest logging out? This way, you don't see ANY sounds.

Dumb replies are dumb.

Also, playing against Mesmer with sounds off is ftw. So many times the sound Diversion makes saved my ass in GvG.

First, you can't spam Hero Rank or Zaishen Rank.
Second, it's an achievement so maybe your just jealous?

There seem to be three arguments in favor of leaving the sound in:

1) The Internet is for freedom. I should be able to do whatever I want.

This one has already been capably dismissed. By this faulty reasoning, I am legally entitled to your GW account and its contents if I can hack it. If you can honestly say that you wouldn't send a ticket to support if someone hacked your account, feel free to make the above argument. If not, your logic and argument are bad.

The principle that "your freedom stops at the tip of my nose" is necessary for humans to live together in societies with a minimum of conflict.

2) You can just turn your effects off.

This may be true if you only play PvE or sit in town using GW as a chat program. If you play PvP, this simply is not an option. You get information from the in-game sounds; some of it is irreplacable. The best-known one is the fact that you always hear Diversion before you see it land on you. Being able to cancel skills to avoid Diversions wins matches.

Another example: if the other Warrior on my team is behind me, and I hear the Blinding Surge land on that Warrior, I know I've got at least a couple seconds of blessed freedom to unload adrenal skills. I would not know that if effects were off.

Upshot: Having effects on makes you a better player, so some of us have to have effects on at least some of the time. Having to turn them off every time I enter Kamadan or Balth to sell something, then turn them back on to return to PvP, is costly and annoying.

3) Removing the sound means removing all Yeti and/or Tonic sounds.

Simply not true. The random grunts aren't (very) annoying. It's people spamming the /sit emote and cancelling it that's annoying. All the devs have to do is remove that sound in some way, shape or form. Lots of ways to do it: voluntary participation through an options box, removing that sound from the Yetis, changing how /sit works on the tonic, sounds are only heard by the owner of the tonic, etc.

Now that we've cleared up the objections, can we do something about this?

This shall be my final say on the topic;

The only, ONLY reason people are spamming the Yeti sounds, is because all of you are getting so mad about it. If you didn't care, they wouldn't spam, because there would be no reaction from it. This should give you a hint.
